Workshop on “Exposing Rural Youth to Soft Skills”

      The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce (FAPCCI) conducting a one day free workshop on Exposing Rural Youth to Soft Skills on November 2, 2010, at Surana Udyog Auditorium, Federation House, FAPCCI, Red Hills, Lakdi-Ka-Pul, Hyderabad.

     The workshop will cover the basic Concepts of “GMR Experience”, “PMO Method”, "Short-Term Training and Employment Opportunities in Nursing for Rural Youth”, “Importance & Need of Soft Skills”, “Rural youth and Rural Skills” and “English spoken skills”. Meeting with Leader of Life Sciences Mission of Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce

      The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) organized a Meeting on October 26, 2010, with Life Sciences Mission of Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce, at JS Krishna Murthy Hall, Federation House, Red Hills, Hyderabad.

      Dr. (Mrs.) Dorit Sallis, Leader of Life Sciences Mission of Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce was the Chief Guest at the Meeting held at FAPCCI.   Mr. Shekhar Agarwal, President, FAPCCI, Mr. V. S. Raju, Senior Vice-President, Mr. Srinivas Ayyadevara, Chairman, International Trade & Relations Committee, FAPCCI, Mr. M V Rajeshwara Rao, Secretary General, FAPCCI and many other businessmen, industrialists and others participated in the said meeting. 

      Dr. (Mrs.) Dorit Sallis, in her address said that she was absolutely overwhelmed by the response to this meeting with Swiss Delegation and stated that there is vast potential for cooperation between Swiss and Indian companies.  The key areas of business sought being Life Sciences biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, machinery building, manufacturing precision machinery. They are here to promote Swiss Flagship industry i.e. Small and Medium Enterprises, apart from promoting SMEs and Vocational Education and Training.  They are here as facilitators.  The members of delegation were introduced to the members present with details of their area of business interest.  The members of the delegation also clarified about the legal aspects relating to tax, labour laws and visas if one has to set up business in Switzerland.   

       Welcoming the Chief Guest, President, Mr. Shekhar Agarwal said that economic relations between India and Switzerland have become comprehensive, evolving into a full-fledged partnership between the two countries.  Swiss economy is one of the most diversified in the world.  Financial, pharmaceutical along with bio, micro medical and information technology contribute to Switzerland’s leading position among industrialized countries. 
       The Indo-Swiss bilateral trade volume amounts to $ 3.3 billion – two thirds of which are exports to India and one third, imports from India.   Andhra Pradesh is the first State to recognize the importance of Biotechnology in the economic development of the country.  India’s first Biotech Cluster-Genome Valley (GV) is located near Hyderabad.  The visit of this High Level Business Mission is an excellent opportunity for our entrepreneurs to strengthen healthcare research and development in modernizing the A.P’s healthcare sector.  A.P.  would be happy to share its experience and expertise with Swiss in agriculture, small scale industries and infrastructure projects.  The delegation’s visit to Andhra Pradesh will further expand the economic ties between the two countries.

Income Tax Department has invited FAPCCI

      The Income Tax department, Hyderabad is observing “Vigilance Awareness Week” from October 25, 2010 to November 01, 2010.

      In connection with a talk on “Maintenance of probity in public life and prevention of corruption”. In this connection a highly inspiring and elucidating talk was given by honorable Justice Mr. P. Venkatarami Reddy, Chairman, Law Commission of India. The department has invited the office bearers and members of managing committee to attend this program, FAPCCI being a very important stakeholder Mr. Shekhar Agarwal, President, FAPCCI, Mr. Koteshwara Rao, Past President, Mr. Suraj Prasad Agarwal, Past President, Mr. Ajay Jain, Chairman, Direct Taxation Committee and Mr. M.V. Rajeshwara Rao, Secretary General participated in the program.  
       Mr. A.K. Basu, The Chief Commissioner, Income tax Department, in his welcome address maintained that honesty is very important, without honesty and integrity. The public perception of the department will remain negative. The corruption has social problems and coated few examples as to how public spend 21,000 crores in the country to get simple public services such as power, water, issue of license..etc.
      Mr. P. Venkatrami Reddy said vigilance importance in his key speech is that the vigilance is a small step but important step towards clear administration. He is expressed that the greater wealth is to live with limited money. He also said that “when men are pure hence laws are useless; when men are corrupted laws are broken”. Mr. Venkatrami Reddy remembered to all “Honesty is telling truth to others and integrity is telling truth to self”.

        Mr Sutirtha Bhattacharya, in his address said that Power management is important. Peak load management is the major challenge in India. Import of Power cannot happen at a very short notice. Base load management for energy deficit is necessary. Peak Load management can be managed by addition to capacity.

      In this session Mr. Sutirtha Bhattacharya said the importance of Power Vision is important for the country. Power for All is important. 1000 Unit of Per-Capita Power Consumption by first April 2010. Comparing Punjab with 1400 and Bihar with 120, the picture is dismal. Economic and physical protection and wealth is to be shared by the citizens of the country.



       Mr. Ajay Jain said that the power makes its presence felt by its absence. To maintain double digit economic growth rate, about 13% power demand growth is essential and the corresponding supply should be maintained as stated by our Prime Minister. Although installed capacity in A.P is 14,800 MW, the highest production is only 10,880 MW. Peak deficit is 10%: viz: during February to May. Non Peak deficit 6% during June to January.

       Mr. Karikala Velavan said that the A.P. second largest power utility and the best in India with least possible losses. Power deficit in A.P 2% unlike the national average of 9%.

      Welcoming the Chief Guest, President Mr. Shekahr Agarwal said that the India’s per-capita energy consumption is far below the global average and even far far below that of the per-capita consumption in developed countries. National shortage is about 11-15% and the shortage in A.P. is about the same. Industry suffers from poor quality of Power and serious interruptions in the power supply.

      Padma Vibhooshan Mr. TL Sankar said that Production, Transmission and supply along with access are important.

Advocacy Programme on HIV/AIDS – Workplace Policy

       The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with All India Organization of Employers (AIOE) and International Labour Organization (ILO) jointly organized a meeting on "Advocacy Programme on HIV/AIDS – WORKPLACE POLICY” at Surana Udyog Auditorium, Federation House, Red Hills, Hyderabad.
             Ms. Parisha Singh, A.D, All India organization of Employers (AIOE), Mr. V. S. Raju, Senior Vice-President, FAPCCI, Mr. R. Sunil Kumar, Chairman, Tourism & Healthcare Committee, FAPCCI, Ms. P. Joshila, International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr. B.V. Subba Reddy, Joint Director, AP State Aids  Control Society, Mr. M.V. Rajeshwara Rao, Secretary General, FAPCCI and many businessmen, Industrialists and participated in the presentation session.
             Ms. P. Joshila, Programme Officer, ILO, through a presentation covered a wide range of topics relating to HIV/Aids by emphasizing that Employers have a big role to play in helping control HIV/Aids by advocating preventive methods.  Constructive and proactive response in workplace can prove productive in the long run.  Nearly 90% of the HIV infections have been reported from the productive age group of 15-49 years.  In India, the major affected persons are migrant labourers and truck drivers and sex workers.  The fact that most of the people even do not know the exact cause of HIV/Aids.  Further, people are not aware of the exact magnitude of problems faced by HIV/AIDS afflicted person.  There is an
 urgent need to create awareness among the masses about the HIV/AIDs by highlighting the preventive side.  There is a lot of stigma and discrimination against the persons with HIV/AIDs.  To overcome this, corporate sector should take steps to avoid discrimination, gender inequality and also strictly follow the ILO Code of Practice.  There are estimated 33.4 million persons estimated to be HIV afflicted as of 2008.  Out of which, 50% are women.   If HIV/AIDs is detected early, with proper medication, one can survive for 20-25 years.   
       The audience had an special interactive session with Ms. Swapna, who is a HIV/AIDS infected women, who threw light lied on several issues related to HIV/AIDS and specially ON the plight and stigma attached to HIV/AIDS persons.
