Standing Committee of GHMC has taken a decision to ban Plastic Carry Bags effective July 1, 2011.
In this connection, FAPCCI jointly with AP Plastic Manufacturers Association brought to the notice of GHMC that the total ban of Plastic Carry Bags is not in the larger interest of the public, trade and industry, as the ban goes against the provisions of the Central Government Act.
Mr. Shekhar Agarwal, former President, FAPCCI and Mr. Anil Reddy, Chairman, AP Plastics Manufacturers Association and Chairman, Energy Committee of FAPCCI met the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner and Principal Secretary of Industry, Principal Secretary MAUD and others to impress upon them, that such a ban would go against the Central Government Act and that ban is also not in the larger public interest. Further, they represented that several lakhs of employees engaged in the plastic industry would lose their employment.
FAPCCI would like to thank the Mayer and Commissioner of GHMC for a proactive step taken by GHMC in allowing the use of Plastic Carry Bags of thickness above 40 microns, and ban only carry bags of thickness below 40 microns. This modified ban is in line with Central Government Act.
